MILITARY UNIVERSITY OF LAND FORCES  


On 2 March 2020, the next edition of the Erasmus+ programme was launched. Hence, at the the Military University of Land Forces, the "Orientation Day" began – a welcome day for international students.

Four-person ski-touring teams, with backpacks weighing at least 15 kilograms, had over 50 km distance to cover in the mountains. In the vicinity of Szklarska Poręba, the Military University of Land Forces has already conducted the 4th edition of the mountain winter competition: Military Ski Patrol.

Between 14-21 February 2020, members of the Long-Range Shooting and Tactical Shooting Section of the Military University of Land Forces took part in the 49th edition of Winston P. Wilson (WPW) Championships and the 29th edition of the Armed Forces Skill at Arms Meet (AFSAM) Sniper Championships.

"Fight smart not hard" – this was the motto of cadets and professional soldiers participating in the international exercise Combined Resolve XIII in Hohenfels. It was held in the American Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) in Bavaria from 16 January to 6 February 2020. The training gathered soldiers from 17 countries, including approximately thousand soldiers from Poland.

A delegation of the Military University of Land Forces (AWL) participated in the 5th International Symposium "Command and Leadership," organised by the Military Academy in Lisbon.

On 3 February 2020, in the Mountain Training Centre of the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military Academy of Land Forces in Szklarska Poręba, the Training Course "High-Altitude Activities at Low Temperatures" for professional soldiers from military units began. The current edition is attended by soldiers from the 9th Warmian Reconnaissance Regiment, the 18th Bialystok Reconnaissance Regiment, the Special Unit of the Military Police from Minsk Mazowiecki, the 10th  Armored Cavalry Brigade, and the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade.

On 4 February this year, the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military Academy of Land Forces hosted Colonel Beibit Imangozhin, the Defence Attaché, of the Kazakh Embassy in Poland, who visited Wrocław with Major Kuanysh Chokparov, Deputy Defence Attaché.

From 26 to 31 January 2020 Hrubý Jeseník hosted the 26th  Winter Survival, 2020 Winter Outdoor Polyathlon Championships of the Army of the Czech Republic organised by the University of Defence in Brno. 19 teams from the Czech Republic, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Poland took part in the competition. The Polish team was composed of three female 4th-year cadets of the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military Academy of Land Forces, who are active members of the High Altitude Training Section.

Between 27-31 January 2020 AWL cadets took part in a military skitouring camp in the Czech Republic, near Špindlerův Mlýn, organized by the Charles University in Prague.

This is another edition of the student exchange program with the American University of North Georgia in Dahlonega (UNG).

The status of the bilateral relations between Poland and Japan and the prospects for their development were the main topics discussed during the meeting between Paweł Milewski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Japan, and Taro Kono, Minister of Defence of Japan, which took place on 9 January of this year.

Fallujah – a city in central Iraq, one of the bastions of Sunni terrorists fighting against the international stabilisation forces, about which cadets studying at the Military University of Land Forces were, until now, only able to learn from textbooks. During the American Day 2019 session, it became one of the pillars of the story told by an American war veteran from the Marine Corps, Sgt. Dominic Esquibel.

On 9-17 November this year, International Cadet Week took place in Dahlonega, Georgia (USA). The organizer was the University of North Georgia Senior Military College. The Military University of Land Forces was represented by Sergeant Cadet. Bartosz Kempski. Along with him there were invited students from: South Africa, Georgia, Latvia, Estonia, Czech Republic, Romania, Italy, Japan, Argentina, South Korea, Taiwan and Hungary.

On 7 November 2019 the Military University of Land Forces hosted a teleconference entitled "Peace-building - learnings for Poland from the Northern Ireland peace process".

At the invitation of the Commander of the Portuguese Military Academy, on 5-7 November this year  a delegation of The Military University of Land Forces under the leadership of Rector-Commandant Brig. Gen DSc. Eng. Dariusz Skorupka visited Lisbon. The purpose of the visit was to participate in the inauguration of the academic year at the Military Academy (MA). The ceremony was also attended by a delegation from the Spanish Military Academy in Zaragoza, headed by its Commander.

Meeting of the Rector-Commandant with the Ambassador of Japan in Poland

The Rector Commandant, Brig. Gen. Dariusz Skorupka, DSc,  Eng., on 09 October 2019, at the invitation of the Ambassador of Japan to Poland, His Excellency Tsukasa Kawada, discussed issues related to the development of mutual relations between the Military University of Land Forces and The National Defense Academy of Japan. The meeting was attended by the Defence Attaché - Col Takashi Suzuki, and a representative of the Department of the Military Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of National Defence - Col Michał Pawlak.

MULF medalists

The patrol exercise "Cambrian Patrol" is an opportunity to verify one's skills in warlike conditions. This year's edition was organised for the 60th time by the 160th Welsh Brigade in Brecon and attracted over 130 teams from 34 countries.

Visiting Japan

From 23 to 26 October 2019 a delegation of the Military University of Land Forces, under the leadership of the Rector-Commandant, Brig. Gen. Dariusz Skorupka, DSc, Eng., was visiting Japan.

On 18 September of the current year, the Military University of Land Forces in Wrocław hosted representatives of national and foreign universities and institutions at the Second Dissemination Event on the results of the Strategic Partnership Project International Military Leadership Academy (IMLA).

On 9 - 26 July, within the framework of the "Fulbright Specialist Program", the Military Academy of Land Forces hosted a specialist from the USA, Dr. Michael Brown (University of Maryland).

On 14 - 27 July of the current year, the Military University of Land Forces organised an Intensive Course within the framework of the Strategic Partnership Project  International Military Leadership Academy  (IMLA); the course was targeted at developing leadership skills in students of European Union military academies.  It constitutes a part of a two-year-long international project carried out by AWL in cooperation with military universities from Portugal and Greece.

It is the seventh edition of the International Military Leadership Course (IMLC 2019) organised by the Military University of Land Forces.   From 24 June to 4 July, at the university Mountain Training Center "High Rock" in Szklarska Poręba, we hosted course participants from as many as 9 countries.

On 12-14 June of the current year  AWL delegation led by col. PhD Eng. Jacek Narloch, acting Rector Commandant, participated in the European Union Military Academies Commandants’ Seminar (EMACS) organised in Sibiu by the Romanian Land Forces Academy.

On 4 June of the current year, the Military University of Land Forces was visited by the Director of the NATO Mountain Warfare Center of Excellence (NATO MW CoE),  Bostjan Blaznik, accompanied by a non-commissioned officer, sgt. Marco Pogorevc.

On 20 - 23 May of the current year, a delegation from the Military University of Land Forces partook in the 6th International Symposium of Military Academies (ISOMA 2019) in Stockholm, organised by the Karlberg Military Academy.

On 16 - 17 May of the current year, the officers of the Command Institute at AWL took part in the 11th international scientific and technical conference on "the perspectives of the weaponry and technique of land forces" organised by Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy in Lviv.

In accordance with the decision of the AWL Rector Commandant, Gen.  Brig. DSc Eng. Dariusz Skorupka, the Military University of Land Forces will proceed to implement new didactic and scientific projects this year. This undertaking will be modelled on the projects carried out at USMA West Point, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The Rector Commandant, Gen. Brig. DSc Eng. Dariusz Skorupka was on a scientific internship at USMA at West Point. He was a visiting professor there. The main purpose of the stay was to identify the process of candidate officers education at West Point, and then to implement the best solutions at the Military University of Land Forces.

Another international semester at the Military University of Land Forces was inaugurated in March.  Representatives of 9 countries among the students and cadets.

At the Military University of Land Forces a conference devoted to the issues related to security of Central and Eastern Europe has finished. This is the first conference at the Wroclaw University, which gathered so many national and foreign experts.

On 11 March of the current year, the Military University of Land Forces hosted officers from Qatar, representing the Military College in Doha.  Moreover, cadets from USMA West Point, who are staying at AWL as part of the FAEP (Foreign Academies Exchange Program) exchange, participated in the meeting.

The Military University of Land Forces hosted the ambassadors of France and Germany.  Cooperation was discussed. The ambassadors were accompanied by military attachés.

French soldiers have arrived at the Military University of Land Forces.  Young officers from the Military Academy of Saint-Cyr Coetquidan will be doing an internship at the University within the framework of the agreement between the schools.

A series of lectures and historical trips, participation in a marathon run, rowing the famous trireme, a meeting of the EU Implementation Group and signing the Articles of Association of the Programme Board of the “International Military Leadership Academy” project were all part of the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Military Erasmus Programme in Greece.

The Military University of Land Forces is honoured to host Steven E. Horsley from the University of Charleston within the “Katedra Ad Hoc” project implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of National Defence.

The authorities of the Faculty of Security Studies met with Krystyna Trzepla and Ivan Majchut, PhD, visiting AWL within the “Katedra Ad Hoc” programme.

Between 30 September and 5 October 2018, a representative of the AWL Command Institute participated in the 52nd International Association of Military Mountain Schools Meeting at the Mountain and Special Operations School in Jaca (Spain).

From 30 September to 5 November an American delegation led by Lieutenant General Robert L. Caslen, former Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA), stayed at the Military University of Land Forces on the occasion of the official inauguration of the academic year. The delegation was accompanied by Major Andrew Underwood, Assistant Army Attaché of the USA in Poland.

On 22 August 2018, a delegation from the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces (AWL) under the leadership of Col. Czesław DĄBROWSKI, Ph.D., took part in a ceremony during which the former chief of the Army Officers’ Academy (OSH) in Dresden handed over his duties.

On 23 May 2018, the University was visited by a delegation of twenty three American cadets led by commanding officer Col. Buettner. The Americans came to visit our university in connection with the CULP programme and our place was also another stop in their three-week journey throughout Poland.

On 5 July 2018, the Military University of Land Forces had as guests a delegation of the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt led by Commandant Maj. Gen. Karl Pronhagl. The delegation was accompanied by Austrian defence attaché Col. Friedrich Ölböck.

The International Military Leadership Course (IMLC), organised at the Military University of Land Forces by the Department of Management in cooperation with the Command Institute, entered the phase of practical implementation. Starting on 2 July 2018, officer cadets and foreign cadets underwent a weekly training at the “Wysoki Kamień” Training Centre in Szklarska Poręba.

Monday 25 June 2018 brought the launch of another edition of the International Military Leadership Course (IMLC 2018) organised by the Department of Management in cooperation with the Command Institute.

A delegation of the Military University of Land Forces took part in another edition of the international Military Academic Forum (iMAF), organised by the National University of Public Service in Budapest.

On 14 and 15 June 2018, the Military University of Land Forces had as guests representatives of universities from abroad: the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa), led by the Dean of the Faculty of Military Sciences Prof. Sam Tshehl, and the Royal Military College Saint-Jean (Canada), represented by the Director of the International Centre of Military Research Prof. Ian Parenteau.

A two-person delegation from the Military University of Land Forces, led by Rector Commandant, Brig. Gen. Dariusz Skorupka, DSc, Eng., visited South Korea from 29 May to 02 June.

Soldiers from the Military University of Land Forces prevailed in the standings of military universities in the Italian Raid Commando. Poles competed with 44 military teams from all over the world. The contestants competed in a dozen or so categories in which they were supposed to shoot, make a checkpoint, set a trap, and provide first aid on the battlefield, among other things.

On 17 May the delegation of Korea Military Academy (KMA), led by Superintendent Lieutenant General Wantae Kim, visited the Military University of Land Forces. The delegation was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Hong Soon Shin, Defence Attaché of the Republic of Korea.

Between 20 and 26 April 2018 representatives of the Long-Range and Tactical Shooting Section, Military University of Land Forces, participated in the 47th edition of the Winston P. Wilson Championships and the 27th edition of the Armed Forces Skill at Arms Meet Sniper Championships which took place in the Fort Chaffee military base in Arkansas.

General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces is vigorously developing international cooperation with mainly foreign military and civilian universities in various fields. International cooperation is one of the main bases for developing and strengthening the brand of the Military University of Land Forces among foreign military universities.

The team of the Military University of Land Forces has participated, for the first time, in the prestigious Sandhurst Military Skills Competition organised by the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA), finishing18th out of 64 squads from around the world, and obtaining the bronze SANDHURST patch.
